Shree Lalshankar Umiyashankar (SLU) Arts and Harivadan and Padmaben (H. & P.) Thakore Commerce College for Women was established in 1920.SLU Arts and H. & P. Thakore Commerce College for Women is UGC recognised college under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) since 17th June, 1972. Initially, the college was associated with SNDT University Mumbai and got affiliated with Gujarat University in 1973.

Since, 1981, the college has been offering B.Com. in Gujarati Medium and English medium B.Com. was introduced in 2007.

This is a grant-in-aid college affiliated to Gujarat University; hence it follows all the rules, regulations, and syllabi of Gujarat University for the Faculty of Arts. At present the college admits students as per online and offline system of the Gujarat University.
